Osama Bin Laden, Dead
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/01/osama-bin-laden-dead-killed_n_856091.html
As confirmed by President Obama, Osama Bin Laden has been killed by US Marines in Pakistan. There was a small firefight in where officials believed Bin Laden to be hiding. The small team killed Bin Laden and took his body so that it is confirmed that the man is dead.
After so many bullshit articles of Bin Laden being dead or he's hiding in Alaska, now the US Government has confirmed that the man is dead. Since this just happened yesterday, I need to know a little more proof to know he's dead. I never watched the news last night so I didn't see Obama adress the nation but the news is going nuts, all I see on every website I go to is "HE'S DEAD, FUCKER'S DEAD, AW SHIT AMERICA" and so on.
If anyone knows, what about pulling the troops out of the Middle East? Are we still going to be active there or will we finally be able to come home? I know we've pretty much fucked up everything there since we first came after the 9/11 attack so it seems almost impossible that we will ever leave. I'm not good at talking about politics or keeping my info up on it but I'd like to know what the hell we're going to do now. Bin Laden is responsible for the attack, now that he's dead as well as Saddam Hussein there's really no more of a reason to stay.

Just because he's dead it doesn't mean that the dust has settled. He is just a face, his followers and roots are deeper. Most of my military friends have said nothing about them coming back.
In fact a lot of them had said "shit isn't going to get any better any time soon."
But Osama, you should've bin hidin better.

Agreed with Erel, if anything the sh*t has only just hit the fan.
Also does anyone find it funny that Bush spent his entire term trying to find Bin Laden and Obama just comes across him (ok I know it isn't that simple but I'm sure he didn't spend as much resources on it as Bush did)

Re: Osama Bin Laden, Dead
well it isn't all that simple. Obama didn't just stumble upon him, this intelligence work has been going on for years, Obama just finally pulled the trigger on it bc he felt like he had enough to go on, and he did. As for troops pulling out--I doubt it, just bc bin Laden is dead, doesn't mean the war on terror is over, not to mention things with pakistan are a bit shaky atm bc bin Laden has been hiding in a mansion there for the last five yrs and Pakistan conveniently knew nothing about it. Those killed include bin Laden, one of his sons, his courier, and a couple of his wives which he used as body shields. Navy SEALS carried out the operation, and no one was killed on our side. Thank god he's dead, but he is only the head of the snake, the war on terror will never be over. Btw he was shot twice, once in the head, and once in the chest, photographs were taken, but haven't been released to the public. He was buried at sea

Re: Osama Bin Laden, Dead
It is a good think he is dead, so Al Quaida (I have no idea how to write it D:) has lost his most important man, but like Zack and Erel said it won't stop terrorism. I even have mixed feelings because there will be enough terrorists who are dying to take revenge. Hamas doesn't like this news either.
And there's still this discussion going on wether this mission was legal (it would cause problems if not).

I personally don't care if it was legal or not, were the things bin Laden did to thousands of ppl legal?? Sometimes it takes tough decisions, Obama made one and it was the right one

Re: Osama Bin Laden, Dead
I don't see anything smoothing over now that he's dead. If anything, the bloodlust felt by everyone involved will probably lead to an even more hellish life, America included. No doubt some of Bin Laden's followers will attempt to retaliate, probably as a tribute, they'll attack another major city commercial building of ours and the cycle will repeat.
And given how sadistic my classmates are, America will probably cut down on the code of conduct of torture, shredding the Geneva Conventions till the entire Southeast Asia is just a dusty wasteland. All the countries are addicted to war, quiet just doesn't suit any of us.

yeah the difference is that we are expecting a retaliation and are prepared for it

Re: Osama Bin Laden, Dead
There was a ton of information in the room they found him. That information is a gold mine on data that reveals where and who the terrorists are and possible domestic grown fools. The problem is that, if any of that info ties back to a country supporting Al Queada... they might possibly be next.
And its likely that if any of them "are" involved, it'd be Saudi Arabia. If we have to investigate there, you might see the price of oil flatline in the coming years.

doesn't bother me, if he is part of it, then good riddance, cheaper oil would be a nice benefit anyways
