The 3rd Birthday (Parasite Eve)

A new game from Square Enix and also the answer as to where Lightning's alternate costume came from in Dissidia Duodecim.

This game appears to be the 3rd installment in the Parasite Eve series, which I have not played, so maybe someone else can explain.

From what I've seen, though, it's laid out kind of like Prototype with the main character as a weapon against a viral outbreak, except this new epidemic seems to be more of a dormant presence under the earth and it decided to turn up ironically around December 2012. The main character is named Aya Brea, a woman actually in her late thirties, but appears to be in her early 20s due to a case of mitochondria, which made her applicable for the so-called "Overdrive" program. Which plays a part in the battle system which appears to be a third-person style shooter, but unlike that of Dirge of Cerberus somehow.

Overdrive is an ability Aya has that allows her to switch bodies with another human and take her normal form, she also has the ability to take over the minds of the enemies named the Twisted by the investigatory team that discovered them. It appears to be a lifesaver as shown in the trailer on the site listed above, as you can change bodies with another soldier if you get cornered by a Twisted.

Aya Brea also has a multitude of costumes in this game such as a white jacket over her normal outfit, a Lightning (FFXIII) cosplay outfit, a maid uniform and a knight costume. How these are acquired is unknown at this point.
