So in mid-July, American's and Europeans will be getting a localized version of Atlus' newest game for the PS3, Catherine. By the same guys behind the Persona series, the game revolves around a man named Vincent who's cheating on his fiance with a girl who has almost the same name as her. The game will focus on Vincent and his love triangle and the moral feelings he has as he keeps cheating on his girlfriend. At night, Vincent has these freaky dreams where he wakes up with nothing more than sheep horns and his boxers as he tries to go over the issues he's having in his love life. This effects shit that happens to Vincent in the day and the choices he makes with his two lovers effects the end result as there's several endings. The game looks fucking hysterical and the gameplay looks super interesting. I almost want to buy a PS3 so I can play this game. Anyone else?

Re: Catherine
Oh, I'm so getting this. I might have trouble playing it, since I have little sisters in the only house I can use a PS3 in. But, this game looks spectacular in design, and the story looks fuckin demented, but hilarious at the same time. Hopefully, we get it.
Re: Catherine
It comes out like July 26th I think. AND it's going for both PS3 and 360. Each one gets their own special box art.
PS3 users get Catherine (The one Vincent's cheating with)
360 users get Katherine (Vincent's girlfriend)
PS3 users get Catherine (The one Vincent's cheating with)
360 users get Katherine (Vincent's girlfriend)

It's an Atlus game so it doesn't surprise me that you haven't heard of it...I won't be getting it though.

Re: Catherine
It's Hugh Heffner and Charles Manson's version of Q-bert from the looks of it. Basically you climb a tower of blocks, and push and pull the stacked blocks to make your way to the top. Sounds easy at first, but it says there will be time limits and all sorts of shit trying to knock you off in the process.
@Cap'n, so I'm stuck with the more perverted casing, lucky me. >_>

Much like a lot of games that I'm not so sure of, I'm going to rent. And if I like, I'll keep. Happened to me and Alice. I don't think this game's going to be a twister for after playing Alice and Dead Space.
It'll probably just be comically weird. lol.

Re: Catherine
@Zack: it's an erotic-horror puzzle game. I know, it's a weird concept but it's that weird combo of different elements mixed together that made a lot of Shin Megami games so different and so good. Atlus is so different than the norm of JRPG's and they do it so well.
So some facts on the game have been released as in Voice Cast and a funny ass collectors edition set. I'm interested in the cast and I'm not surprised who's who because since it's Atlus, it's probably the same voice directors as the other Shin Megami/Atlus titles. Here's the cast.
Vincent Brooks-Troy Baker
This was a great choice. Troy Baker is a really good voice over and he's well ranged. Listen to some contrast in his roles. He's the new Greed in Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Kanji in Persona 4, Action Bastard of the lulzy Shin-Chan. Also for XIII fans, he is the voice of Snow. I really like Troy as an actor and of what I've heard of him for Vincent, he fits the role really well.
Catherine-Laura Bailey
Yes Nemo, the voice of Lust. People don't seem to give her credit for her more perkier roles. It's also ironic she's always paired with Troy Baker for lovers characters because they're actually married. She's Sarrah from FFXIII, Cloud of Darkness from Dissidia, Shin of Shin-Chan and so on. She seems to be mixing her perky and her sexy for once rather than playing one or the other. It doesn't really show a change from her normal casting but she does fit the role to a T.
Katherine McBride-Michelle Ruff
I love Ruff. I think she's a great voiceover. She also fits Katherine's character. She's best known for being Rukia from Bleach, Carl Clover from BlazBlue, Yukari from Persona 3, Cindy of Jimmy Neutron and so on. Ruff is usually in cartoonish roles but she's good in serious ones like in Persona and so on. She actually got me to like Rukia when I payed attention to Bleach. I've only heard her speak when she's with Vincent in the very beginning of the game so I haven't heard a lot of other moments in the game.
Orlando Haddick-Liam O'Brien
I like O'Brien but he gets roles he's usually not right for. I have not heard anything of Orlando but O'Brien should be using his normal speaking voice rather than him trying too hard to make his characters sound so deep because of his weird breathing. He's best known for being Gaara of Naruto (Also being one of the main translators of the script), Red XIII for the VII Compilation, Kain of the FFIV remake and Dissidia, Akihiko of Persona 3 and so on.
Johnny Agriga-Travis Willingham
I'm mixed with Travis. Sometimes I think he does a great job with some roles (Roy Mustang of Fullmetal Alchemist) and others he does an awful job (Portagas D. Ace of One Piece). I'll have to see how he does in the game.
Toby Nebbins-Yuri Lowenthal
FUCK
Trisha-Erin Fitzgerald
It's hard to really say anything about Fitzgerald because I've only heard a few of her roles. She's best known as being Nazz from Ed, Edd and Eddy and I don't recognize her work from her IMDB and Wiki page. I'll give my 2 cents when I hear her.
The special edition of the game will be 70$ but it comes in a Pizza box of the resturaunt Vincent hangs out in with his boxer shorts, his t-shirt and a pillow cover of the representing Catherine depending on the version and you'll get a sweet art book for the game and a copy of the soundtrack. If I actually had a PS3, this is a collectors edition I'd get because I love the music from a lot of Atlus' games (Because Shoji Meguro usually does the score).

I know that Bailey has other roles. I like them, too. Oddly enough, I think my favorite is the girl from Crystal Bearers. :p
Troy Baker hasn't really ever WOWed me before, although he's made me laugh several times over the years, so this should be fun.

Listen to him as Kanji and Shadow Kanji from Persona 4. IMO, his best role. It's not only good but it's hysterical. Here's a bit of him being both characters.

Alright, that was rather impressive of him, playing two opposite roles. But, it was difficult to hear with Yuri Lowenthal screaming for attention. >_>
Re: Catherine
I saw this advertised on gametrailers.com a month or so ago and just thought WTF?! I don't know whether to get it or not, my opinion seems one sided on the fact that I look at it and I think it might be crap. But who knows.

Re: Catherine
Here's a post by my friend from another forum who played the demo for it.
Wow! That was one of the best demos we have ever played! The graphics are even better than we had realized, heck, the MENU screen had us putting our face right up to the television to better-inspect them.
Unlike with most horrors, if does not restrict itself to dark and dull colours, but it isn't overly bright either. It seems as though the perfect balance has been achieved, and we certainly appreciate a horror that isn't an attack of the browns and greys.
You can see straight away that a lot of love and care has gone into the creation of this thing.
The soundtrack is amazing, but we already knew that. Plenty of classical stuff given new versions by the games composer. The original pieces really stand out too.
The voice English voice acting has been extremely well handled, but it would have been nice to hear more of in the demo (which appears to be much shorter than the Japanese version release a while back).
We really felt the urgency of it all. You might think it sounds like things will be boring because this is a block puzzle game when it gets to the action, but that just isn't the case. Your ass is being chased down for being the son-of-a-bitch that you are, and you really fear for your life.
If you don't solve the puzzles in time then you're dead-meant, and you sure don't get a whole lotta time.
Kinda sucked you're only able to play the demo in 'easy' mode, but I guess they were worried people would be scared off by the harder modes since this game is supposed to be supah-dupah hard.
It simply wasn't the case in the demo. The demo is just not hard. Makes us worry that the full game will be a nasty shock since we fully intend to play it on 'normal' right off the bat.
Our cripes from the demo were extremely minor ones.;
1) There's this logo in the top left which tells you what mode you're playing in. Both unnecessary and distracts away from the games top-quality visuals.
2) Vincent (meaning you) gets texts on his mobile phone which you can reply to, the reply system seems like it could have been implemented better than it was. To cycle through the pre-made replies you have to keep pressing confirm and cancel. Kinda tedious.
3) The pacing felt a bit 'off' since even the slower scenes felt a little hurried somehow. Maybe we couldn't settle because our fear of some impending doom right around the corner.
4) Didn't seem very creepy so far, certainly not as creepy as, say, the Persona games.
If you want to do well you simply cannot hesitate, not even for a moment, we hesitated for literally a few seconds on the first stage when we were getting used to things and we were lumped with a silver trophy.
It may sound like we're being silly, but our lingering was extremely minor! But this could be considered a good thing. We see plenty of replay value for the sorts of folk like myself who like to be show-off pants and achieve top scores all-over the shop.
We did suffer one death, it was sort of expected since everybody speaks of how difficult the game is. But we liked the reason we died. The reason? We were actually pretty scared!
Suddenly our peruser closed in on us whilst screaming, and it was one freakish peruser, so we had just a pure panic, a panic that cost us our lives at the end of a bloody and gigantic fork.
Over all we were deeply impressed. Well worth the one gig of disc space the demo takes up on the PS3 (no idea how much space the 360 version takes up).
Replay value is high, we already find ourselves wanting to go back and give it another whirl. And you know something has to be darned good if you find yourself wanting to replay the demo of it.
Also, you seriously have little to fear about the difficulty if it worried you. Easy mode is indeed easy.
Now if only it had been as long as the Japanese demo....Atlus have truly created something wonderful.
From what we've seen so far, we expect this to be a solid 8/10 game easy.
Oh, and one other thing, just for Nemo ~ wouldn't worry about parents in the room. Yes, the demo does show 'disturbing' things, but the 'emabressing' sex stuff is mostly removed.

Re: Catherine
I'm a bit half and half with this game at the moment, I like the story concept and I don't mind Puzzle games. However I'm wondering if I should hold of a bit till the price comes down.
Either way I will likely buy this for being unqiue.
Also nice subtle origin hint on Catherine's hair design (of course only I know what it means cause someone linked me the true ending (having said that though there seems to be a load of different endings, there's even a special ending for beating something called "Babel" mode. So replay value indeed))

Review is up. It's praised for it's unique gameplay and funny story but it's extreme difficulty and some rather stupid side story elements rate the game downward as well as its graphics. I still want it though.

Whoooooaaaaaah is this game crazy. I only started playing today, and I've only learned 2 things: A. Catherine (the game, not the character) is fuuuuucked uuuuup. B. Catherine (the game, again) is oh so very very hard. But so far, aside from these things, it's been pretty interesting, and it is a pretty fun game. I don't want to go into too much detail and spoil anything, especially since it only came out earlier today, but so far i really like it!
