Top 5 Favourite Video Game Twists
We all love good video games and I'm sure we all love good plots. Therefore it's only natural for me to conclude that a majority of us rack our heads around in awe when a moment has happened in a game that makes you either scream "what the f*ck!" in confusion or breathless in admiration as your head clicks little pieces together. Obviously thats most likely an over-statement of what might happen when a plot twist happens but non the less it sounds good for an opening statement (at least it did to me).
Any how, whether they big moments or just small tiny things that only you nerdgasmed over. List your top 5 favourite twists in video games here. For obvious reasons this thread is going to have spoilers. When listing a favourite twist try to use the

to hide the information (but keep the name of the game outside on the list so people will know if they can have it spoilt for themselves. (although I don't think any of us would really rip each others necks out for it)
5) Final Fantasy VII
4) Metal Gear Solid
3) Final Fantasy X
2) Sonic Generations
1) Metal Gear Solid 2

5) Final Fantasy VII
- Spoiler:
- "That piercing feeling" AKA Aerith's gonna die
Yeah start with a final fantasy one, when this happened it came left field to me as a kid. Here I was playing this game which to me was just awesome. Massive world, lots to kill lots to see and loads of characters I had liked. So naturally with the whole Gold saucer date and small flirting moments here and there I assumed that Aerith and Cloud where the couple and that through thick and thin they would naturally in the end up together in a happy ever after way (I was a kid, so guillable). As soon as Aerith died I seriously couldn't believe it, and although it doesn't have as much as an impact I still remember my initial reaction when it happened.
4) Metal Gear Solid
- Spoiler:
- "Nice going Snake" AKA Liquid's reveal
Here I was, I had been tortured, fought a psychic and I bulking man with a gatling gun. I had worked hard and finally after getting back in time with the hot key I'm just about to destory Metal Gear Rex.
But wait...alarms, the rooms sealed, gas is flooding the room. What's happened?!
Yep Liquid = Miller, another vivid twist from my childhood. Another one I hadn't seen coming although this time there where actually big clues to it coming. When I first got that codec call and saw Miller whip off his sunglasses and throw down his hair I just couldn't believe my eyes.
3) Final Fantasy X
- Spoiler:
- "The cycle of life" - AKA It won't change a thing
I've travelled the legth of the land slowly leading this character to her death. Knowing full well that she would be giving her life in the hope of changing things. For me when I first played FFX that was a really bitter pill to swallow as I really liked the Yuna/Tidus relationship. So what happens when I reached Zanarkand not only did I did I learn the "kick me in the balls" truth about why a guardian is needed for a summoner but I also learned that achieving me goal will result in sod all. Yuna and someone else (btw my money was full on either Kimahri, Tidus or Lulu becoming the Aeon if they went with it) would die and sin would certainly come back. Its also a favourite because of the fact that makes the next scene more awesome
2) Sonic Generations
- Spoiler:
- "Nobody calls me that anymore" AKA Eggman is the baddie.
Sounds werid stating that the biggest twist in a sonic game is that Dr Ivo Eggman Robotnik is the end boss in a Sonic game. But yeah when I saw all the adverts and few leaked cutscenes I was under the assumption it was going to be the monster of the week again. So not only was I suprised to see him there, I was even more suprised to see two of him there.
1) Metal Gear Solid 2
- Spoiler:
- "Turn off the game right now" AKA The Colonel's a Robot - AKA The Solid Snake Simulation - AKA Arsenal Gear
I know another Metal Gear one, but I can't help it. From the moment Snake revealed "Switching sides. I never said I was on yours" to Raiden throwing the dog tags everything about the last act constantly gave me a cluster buster of "what the f*ck" moments. Even better of a twist when you know that Kojima was using Raiden to partially to insult the player.
Re: Top 5 Favourite Video Game Twists
(Sorry, Ry, clearly it was obvious which one you meant to keep and which one was the fluke. lol. I deleted the other one, unless Zack's statement was correct that you loved this thread so much you made 2 of them)

Re: Top 5 Favourite Video Game Twists
XD I wasn't even aware I had made two of them. I had the idea for the thread between uni work and thought I'd better post it quick before I forget. As soon as I had went straight back to work unaware of what I'd done
Re: Top 5 Favourite Video Game Twists
I don't know if it is one of my favorites but 13-2 had a major twist at the end.
