This is all a matter of opinion obviously. I'll name the games that I thought stood out for me through the gaming year. State the ones that you thought was/were worthy to name.

RPG Genres:
Demons Souls
Dragon Age Origins
Cross Edge

First Person Shooter:
Call of Duty WOrld At War
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Fighting Game:
Street Fighter IV
BlaZ Blue

Misc Action game/Movie game:
Wolverine Origins
Infamous
Prototype

Uncharted 2--won many goty awards and I really want to play this game it looks amazing

Assassins Creed 2--this game is one of the most improved sequels I have played, it is so much better than the first game

Dragon Age: Origins--If you don't have this game, buy it, it is addictive and fun, I love this game and it is ruining my sleep schedule

Borderlands--newcomer of the year, and probably the best multiplayer game of the year imo with some good DLC

Fable 2--I think this came out in 2009 right? well anyways it was a classic and a good improvement on the first game
