Amidst all the chaos of the fire, my friend (one I'm living with right now) had a cousin who just recently committed suicide. Now I'm not going to go in details on what happened, but it's pretty damn obvious that he did more damage than good.

Because I have experience a suicide in my life with someone really close and the plain absurdity of someone even thinking about doing it, it's plain to see my opinion on it. No ONE, and I MEAN NO ONE has a life that is SO godamn hard that they must even think about it. And believe me, I came from a very very bad background from a 3rd world country where you wonder everyday if you are going to be fed or beat the fuck up. Those who would like to say that they have the right to do so I would to ask, what the fuck did you do to get yourself in that scenario. Or should I say what didn't you do?

While I will mourn and respect the family and those affected by the act of cowardice, I will forever disdain them for their final act. Hell, even those who thought about it and put it on blast for many people to see/read I have a hard time respecting. If one really thinks their life is so godamn hard, you may want to do your research. Someone else has a harder life and they are fighting and working hard to live while you bitch and moan for attention. Then when it is done and the whole thing that 'it was better this way' is the excuse, think again. Look at the people grieving at the viewing. Listen to the sound of people hysterically crying and not wanting to let go the casket because they can't believe that the damn deed was done.

Anyways. Anyone else share the thought? Was anyone stupid enough to think of the idea way back when or now so we can all tell you how fucking stupid your are for even thinking about it?

I couldn't have said it much better myself Erel. Cowardice. That one word sums it up for me. You have been given a life to live, live it to the fullest, never take one day for granted. Look at the children fighting cancer, the handicapped peers you had in school whose dream it was just to walk one day, can your life really be so much worse? Yeah, life is hard, but you aren't the only one having a shitty day/week/ or year. It's how you respond to adversity that shapes the kind of person you are. Think about the people that care about you and love you, and even though you will deny that they do, you know they do, and you just don't want to believe it.

The only act of suicide that I see as acceptable is somebody with a terminal illness who is suffering, and on their last leg, or somebody who is a vegetable, because I wouldn't want my family to have the burden of caring for me.

Must say, I agree whole-heartedly if but a little bit more compassionate to those who consider it. Yes it is a cowardly thing and it does far more harm than good, but it's not a normal thought, and people who think of it aren't in their right minds. What the person needs is someone to help them sort there problems out and get them back on their feet. I must say though, my respect is all but gone for those who do go through with it and their grave is shamed by their inability to use a basic skill like asking for help.

Knowing quite a few people who've considered it, I'm glad to say I haven't had to experience it yet.

Wondering why this topic wasn't made already. Hell, it's one of the reasons I'm surprised y'all trusted me to administrate the forum.

As a number of you know, I tried this same bullshit about 5 years ago, and I'm SO FUCKING HAPPY that people stopped me. I put that in caps to let people who are thinking about doing it, to NOT FUCKING DO IT. My reason for attempting it was stupid, illogical and above all ignorant. I was in the mindset that everyone in the world hated me, that I was a waste of space, and that the world really would be a brighter place if I didn't wake up to blot out the sunshine the next morning. That being said, I still hate myself for a number of reasons, but I'm still an enjoyable person to be around from time to time, and I'm happy I'm alive for reasons that I can't count.

The experience left me scarred in more ways than one, however. Most noticeably is my reaction to those telling me that they want to end their lives. In the nicest way possible, I go ballistic and basically tell them that "if you think no one cares if you die, then tie the noose good and tight, because if you go through with it, then I promise you that I will not be shedding one fucking tear at your funeral, nor will I give you one ounce of mercy if you survive".

Someone I know came to school carrying a dark air around them and I noticed a razor in her hand. I snatched it away, flushed it, and scolded her instead of consoling her like some people would do. I don't care what your reason is, but I have no tolerance for this kind of selfishness. Hypocritical, maybe, but I REALLY don't give a shit how anyone else handles this problem.

Nice to know your reaction now Nemo because I remember the discussion we had when we first met on the topic.

I completely agree that throwing your life away is bullshit no matter what you've been through. You've just gotta get off the ground and keep going on. Weither you do it with help or by yourself, you've just gotta keep going on with your life. I've discussed my view on it for years and my stand for it is even stronger. My uncle committed suicide two years ago and we still have not recovered. My grandparents are so shaken up by it and have not been the same ever since. We literally cannot watch some shows and movies without thinking of him. It was super selfish of him because he left behind his two daughters who have been repeatedly screwed over because of the shit they've been through.
