Are Chocobos a Dieing Breed?

In the main series I mean, not in the Chocobo spinoffs and such. I made this topic on another site and we've got a good discussion from it.

In FFX and FFXII, Chocobo's did not give us that full feeling of travel that we were spoiled with in the PS1 games and now are there to allow you to visit 1 or 2 special areas in the game before becoming absolutely useless.

FFX only allowed 2 areas to explore with a Chocobo and they were really not satisfying after the previous entries Hot and Cold minigame and ability to travel the world in style with a flying chocobo.

Then FFXII opened up the access to travel with the chocobo almost anywhere but the sad thing was there was a time limit of only a few minutes so it was like handing a kid a lollipop and saying "Here you go, I'm gonna yank it out of your hands in 5 minutes."

I think they ruined Chocobos the moment they took away the world map (tossed away in FFX). I think they might just be using them now as a "looks its one of the icons that symbolise the series" moments.

they need to bring back the chocobo sidequests, they are one of the best things about final fantasy games, I mean who didnt love racing, and breeding chocobos, not to mention betting on them
