I beat Chrono Cross Empty I beat Chrono Cross

Post by The Cap'n Sun Feb 14, 2010 1:47 am

This is going off the old Chrono Cross topic I made way back when I bought this game in....... July?

Fuck this game. What a clusterfuck of a story. Really displeased with it.

And I hate the fact that there's 48 god damned characters that I hated using and recruiting except 6 of them. Orlha (Fav character, love her to pieces, a sexier version of Tifa but not as big of Buzungas), ZOAH (I LOVE ZOAH, RAWR I TALK LIKE THIS), Steena (She's kewl, Mix of mage and samurai), Norris (Lol, I'm a man with morals in an evil empire lolololol I'm original), Riddel (I'm like a princess only I wear a snake on my face) and Glenn (NO ONE PAYS ATTENTION TO MEEEEEEE double wild Enlanzer to be strongest character in game).

The plot twists of Lynx being Serge's.... father and a fucking computer program was so stupid. And Harle was a fantastically written character but that plot twist with her was retarded. And fuck Kid, annoying brat. Then why wasn't Guile Magus? That would have made the story sooooo much better.

I am just really disappointed in this game and find Trigger superior in every way. I don't understand why people call this the greatest RPG of all time. I really liked its story in the beginning but then it just died out with the lame anime plot twists of random crap and I just can't get attracted to a character when I've got to worry about over 40 others and only like 10 at max have something to do with the story.

How I interpreted the story is that as Crono, you fucked up. So in Crono Cross, you have to fix what Crono fucked up on.

I knew that was the story but it was so poorly put together imo. First, I really liked the switch of Serge and Lynx's bodies and how Serge was trying to retrieve it again but then what was the purpose of Lynx, when as Serge, collecting an army to screw with the world? So Serge had a bad reputation? When Serge turned back to normal, no one was like "OH SHIT IT'S SERGE!" and tried to run away, they were just like "Oh it's Serge. Hi Serge!" When they could have never been given the knowledge that he was not the bad guy.

And the whole origins of Lynx to begin with is stupid. Being Serge's father that was taken over as the biological form of FATE and made him a Panther man because Serge is a pussy with pussies. I could have lived without that knowledge. The whole computer program thing wouldn't have bother me as much because Lynx wanted to get back to his computer self in Chronopolis, but being Serge's dad? Why? Is that supposed to add to Serge's character? He's already a cluster fuck background of dimension hopping, being the Chrono Trigger, the Frozen Flame's successor. Then Harle being a dragon was dumb too. I always thought she had some serious connection with Kid because of her comments of "Kicking someones ass so hard, they'd kiss the moon" but no, she's the "OMG I didn't expect that!" 7th Dragon God.

I can accept the fact Kid is Shala's clone, because of the ending of Chrono Trigger when Lucca found her as a baby with Shala's pendant. I was ok with that, still did not change the fact Kid annoys the fuck out of me. And I personally liked the small references to Trigger like the cave girl character was a joke on Ayla, Glenn was a joke with Frog, the Prometheus program aka Robo being killed by FATE. But where was Magus? He seriously needed to be there because Magus is super important with Shala being her fucking brother.

The game itself was overall good to me. There were a lot of flaws that you pointed out like the way the story was told.

I played that game when I was really.... young.. {that was a long time ago... I'm getting old} So I had to play over and over to udnerstand the story. I got the idea that Crono's actions was a major FU-Bar in this dimension. I got the whole Serge's dad, Schala, etc.

I like and hate the tragedy that happens after Chrono Trigger that Chrono Cross said like Lucca being killed, Robo's termination, your actions with Crono and gang wasn't as happy go jolly.... but you're right. I was waiting for Magus. I was waiting for Crono too.

I was hoping most of the characters had more of a background. honestly, you talking about it makes me want to play it again. Unfortunately, I have my sights on the new games instead of reliving the classics.

Post by The Cap'n Wed Feb 17, 2010 11:31 am

I never heard of Chrono Cross until the first time I heard about Chrono Trigger and I was like 14 when i heard about it and played it for the first time. Then I bought the DS version and wrecked the hell out of it because it's such a good game.

When I heard that Trigger had a sequel I always wanted to play it then I finally got my hands on it and I'm just so disappointed. The gameplay really made the game easy. I mean I could run away from EVERY BOSS FIGHT. There was no challenge, you could split at any time against any enemy except for the rare occasion of forcing to fight some bosses like Garai and Dario but being able to run away from the Time Devourer and Dragon God was ridiculous. Then the element system was really easy to customize.

Using the Chrono Cross to beat the Time devourer was a pain in the ass though. Christ, I spent hours just trying to get the right order of elements to use before the fucker would screw up my order and force me to do it again.

Maybe it's just the fact that I'm older and I over analyze everything (because I'm a fucking writer) I read and watch that I can't get the same feel of love towards anything new. FF9, if I played now I would have been annoyed as all fuck about it but because I was so young as a kid when I played it, I loved it to pieces. I'm thinking, maybe I would have appreciated this when I was younger but I definitely do not now. I still love Orlha and Zoah and I think it's safe for me to say they may be in my 10 ten favorite characters of anything of all time, preferably Orlha in my top 5.

I wanted to scream everytime that godamn Lavos spawn ruined the order of the godamn Element. And the one thing too is that the 'good ending' wasn't really all that different.

But I liked the elements, and Chrono Cross was like the 3rd RPG I ever played back then so maybe that's why it was a little difficult for me. Maybe now that I play it with more experience it'll be cake walk. I don't remember being able to run away from everything.... damn that's gay.

ANd you know what Amarant, I think I disagree with you being annoyed at FFIX if you played it now. I thnk you just have a connection with taht game that even if you have played it for the first time now you probably will still have some undying love for it. If you analyze things like I do, then you would appreciate a game because of the good story and the development of the story and all the characters involved around it.

hell I know fighting the time devourer with Serge alone was a pain in the ass, I still thought the story was really good, and had some good twists, something that a lot of games miss nowadays, and the run away thing isn't a big deal, if you don't like it, don't use it, it is as simple as that, you will forget that it is even an option

does anyone ever think another game will come from this series, like a remake or sequel? Chrono Trigger and Cross are two of the most popular RPG's ever made, I wish something would be made

There was a third Chrono game in the works but it was dropped because nothing was really set in stone. Honestly, I think it would have sucked because it was going with pretty much the same route as Cross with the extreme ammount of characters. I'm glad they just left it at Cross because it never really got the love from a lot of people like Trigger and I don't think there's a whole lot of material they can use from Cross to make a sequel.

Maybe they would have put Magus in as a major character (which they should have done in Cross) and maybe see what's going on with Kid and Serge at the game's end because they apparently get married because they showed so much of a love connection throughout the game (Sarcasm).

well there is a game called The Radical Dreamers which is a sort of sequel to Trigger, but supposedly it is really hard to find, and isn't much of a game

I read up on Radical dreamers a long time ago. It was suppose to be a game after Chrono Trigger.... or something. It was more like a story game and it was suppose to be Chrono Cross. It had Serge, Kid, and Lynx but they were totally different. I don't know too much about it. Wiki has a really brief description about it.

There were many rumors about a third addition to the Chrono Saga. some said it would've gone to E3 or what not last year but... never did. But like Amarant said they didn't do a good job relating the story and when they did, they said Fuck Crono and friends, they fucked up. But I did enjoy and like Chrono Cross.

LOL Radical Dreamers is AWFUL.

The game is a "prequel" to Cross but it has nothing to do with any of the events that take place in the game and nothing from Radical Dreamers spreads to Chrono Cross. It was a disaster. The game is about Serge, Kid and Lynx pretty much being the same characters only Serge is a hopeless romantic and he wants to fuck Kid BAAAAD. The game is stricktly text. Everything. It's basically one of those "Choose Your Adventure" books but in game form. You read a part, you make a choice of what to do and the story goes on to what you chose. Bad thing is you get killed ALOT and the text is SLOOOOOWWWWWWW. I checked a playthrough of it on youtube and it took 10 minutes for a paragraph to pop up. It's bad writing too. In other words, it's a bad game. BIG SURPRISE.
