My Evrae Strategy
I'm not sure if this is the best, but it's the one I've gone with every time I've played. Give comments. :p Be sure Tidus knows Slow.
Start out with a party of Tidus, Auron and the third is up to you. I use Kimahri as my third using Tidus' grid so he has Haste and Cheer.
Since Evrae is right up next to you, cast Haste on Auron and use Power Break immediately, then when Tidus' turn comes back up, cast Slow on Evrae. Then pull away and have Tidus/Kimahri cast Haste on every character, and if you can stand against Photon Spray, begin using Cheer on your tank characters, including Wakka, makes things easier.
Once you've built up your characters, switch out with Wakka, Rikku and Lulu(though she's almost useless) Keep batting Evrae with Wakka and keep Rikku handy to use an Al Bhed Potion in case you suffer too much damage, either have her defend or use Luck over and over. As for Lulu, if you have the 'aga' level spells, you can pound Evrae with those, if you don't, then just use Reflex.
Around 11,000 HP, Evrae will counter your Slow with Haste, and he will automatically recast it if you recast Slow, so don't bother. Then if you haven't pulled up by then, he will use Swooping Scythe and will automatically repeat this process if you try to pull away again. Now it's up to your tank characters to pound him until he's finally gone. You may want to keep Rikku out in case he uses Poison Breath or Stone Gaze.
That's pretty much it, overprepared, I suppose, but it works very well for me.
P.S., if you're unaware of how to beat Evrae Altana, just use two Phoenix Downs and he's dead.

Re: My Evrae Strategy
Better strategy:
Throw a Silver Hourglass and Smoke Bomb to Blind/Slow Evrae at the start of the battle.
Pull back when Evrae inhales to not be killed by Poison Breath (If you're playing NSG games).
Do the fight as normal, nothing is actually hard in this battle.
Once Evrae gets below 19,998 HP, mix a SUpernova with Rikku (Supreme + Shining, or *Gem + Dark Matter) to instant kill him.
Never even see the haste part.

Re: My Evrae Strategy
I did NOT know you could Blind him. ._. I feel slightly retarded.
I need a guide for Rikku's Overdrives, the one that comes with the guidebook is dizzying...

Re: My Evrae Strategy
The guidebook?
Don't tell me BradyGames?
If it is BG... burn it. It'll be more useful that way.
And I AM being serious.

Re: My Evrae Strategy
Hm.. Prima Vista or DoubleJump are generally pretty good.
The best of course is the Ultimania, but you need to know Japanese for those.
