Re: Final Fantasy I
Lich was the earth fiend.
You're looking for Marilith in mount gulg now.
Careful though, the lava drains health (duh you knew that already)
Oh and Thieves/Ninjas can learn Temper and haste as can the red mage/wizard but only black mage/wizard can use saber independently.
get the Giants gloves so you don't need them.
My party used to be two warriors a thief and a red mage but I have since dropped one warrior in favor of a monk for late game rapeage

Re: Final Fantasy I
Killed Marlith (although thanks for confirming how to get to her and stuff Zane) now I'm guessing it's either the water fiend or the air fiend. Game's not telling me but I'm guessing water as I have no means to become airbourne yet.
Re: Final Fantasy I
OK, if at any time you feel my instructions spoil the plot, feel free to go it alone.
Alright, to get the airship You'll need to go to the Ice caves to get the levistone, but its a little puzzling.
Uh, the water fiend is up next and you'll need to get a bottle from a merchant in the small desert... it contains a fairy you'll release in Gaia. it gives you oxyale so you can enter the dungeon.
Here's another objective map.
the orange O and the dark circle is onrac, where you'll find kraken.
and the X with the arrow is the Ice cavern.

Re: Final Fantasy I
Kraken is slightly more difficult than Marilith, but with proper grinding and spamming Saber and Protect, you'll smash him in no time. Tiamat feels like a workout even after grinding. She would almost always hit first when I fought her, Protect helps, but it's best to just focus all your support spells on your tank character and go all out.
Another tidbit, mostly for the good Cap'n, Gilgamesh is an easter egg in the remake. He can be found in the secret water dungeon, which opens up after defeating Kraken. He's tougher than the four fiends, imo, but after beating him, you get a piece of the Genji equipment, the Glove, I think.

Re: Final Fantasy I
Yeah I already knew that lol. But the PSP remake plays a wicked version of Battle on the Big Bridge when you fight him.
I have the GBA remake and that's when I was first introduced to him.
I never had a problem with some of the later bosses and a lot of the secret ones because my characters were well leveled and had the best gear and spells for them. I think the boss that gave me the most problems was Tiamat and Marilith because the dungeons would fuck me over. Marilith and her fucking lava dungeon sapped pretty much all my HP and then I used all my MP to keep healing my characters.

Re: Final Fantasy I
@Cap'n, didn't know he was in the GBA version, only played that for about...24 minutes. xD I hate the gameboy when it's not Pokemon on the screen.
Does anyone know where a decent grinding spot would be? I'm stuck at level 50 with nowhere to go that won't annihilate me. The Chaos Shrine is decent, but like other FFs, the final dungeon isn't usually the best place to get EXP. :/

Re: Final Fantasy I
I'd suggest the lower floor of the sky fortress "the mirage tower"
lotsa enemies, decent rewards, little difficulty.

Yeah, it's weird with bosses in this game. Sometimes they're really tame then the next time you challenge them they're fucking ridiculously hard.

Re: Final Fantasy I
Random difficulty spikes? I never encountered that. The hard ones are always hard, and the easy ones are always immemorable. :p
Re: Final Fantasy I

Re: Final Fantasy I
I can never get into it, Spose I played it far too late, having played many of the later games. I appreciate that it spawned the series but the game itself I can't enjoy.

I agree for the most part, it was one of those games I played just so I could say that I did

Re: Final Fantasy I
Yeah, FFI is not a game to replay but it's a game I find that most FF fans must play at some point. Just to get that feel as to what FF used to be since it's now riddled garbage.

Re: Final Fantasy I
I recently began a game on it, I got my ship but then forgot where to sail I hadn't played it since I had it on the GBA 7 or 8 years ago

I concur. It is for sure a game all must somehow get experience with it, so if one IS/WAS a final fantasy fan, this could be one of those they can claim in their brag rights. Suffice to say, and this might not be something I claim much pride to an extent, the gameplay no longer enamors me as it did. I used to fervently play this genre when I was young, but at these days, I no longer have that kind of mindset and/or patience for it.
Hahaha! And to further elaborate on the notion of this topic since I was the one to initiate it, suffice to say, I never did beat the one I bought for my iPhone!!!
