Dunno

I think a really cool trick for the sonic series would be the ability to save replays and maybe even edit the camera angles in reviews.

Um. I've haven't played Sonic since it was the main mascot for Sega when Sega was a console... however I do have a question for you Sonic fans:

What was up with the were-hog?

^Do you mean storywise or just in general.

Storywise it worked for the plot and was slightly needed.

In general the gameplay wasn't as bad as people made it out to be it was just long and very, VERY Tedious (1 werehog stage would last at least 15 minutes).

But I digress, as a fan I can't wait for this. I know theres going to be an online leaderboard showing off people who got the quickest times when it came to finishing the stage. However the replay idea is pretty cool Zane, I would actually like to see it (although changing the camera angle would be pretty hard to do).

Also for those interested another stage confirmed is angel island zone.

Sonic Generations Empty Re: Sonic Generations

Post by Zane the pure Thu Apr 28, 2011 4:55 pm

Well, the werehog just didn't do it for me. the sonic sereis in its roots was about timing and momentum, and the modern games are about style and speed, and the werehog was none of those... I think it probably would have been more appreciated if it wasn't involved with the sonic series at all.

Sonic colors finally felt like a really good game, but I could have enjoyed it more if the wisps were just plot elements... the level design and implementation was good, it just felt out of place...

but the thing I didn't like, merely out of fandom of it, was the fact that sonic's speed boost thing would warp the soundtrack. Sonic soundtracks are really good and it was annoying to here half of the tune and all static... even the turbulence sounds from riders were better... small complaint but it kinda messed up the sound.

to be honest, I'd rather just have the spin dash instead, but its pretty gratifying to plow through some mooks and do a giant loop right after.
like I said earlier, I would love to have the adventure style back minus the glitchy camera and level holes, which sega has proved repeatedly they can beat.

Post by RYCloud92 Mon Jun 20, 2011 7:12 am

For me I actually preffered the style and story of Adventure 1. Minus the Big levels and it would be the best.

Anyway as we have this thread might aswell post everything I know so far about it storywise and gameplay wise.

The PS3/360 versions will so far have City Escape and Green Hill Zone. The 3DS Version will have Green Hill Zone and also Casino Night as an exclusive level. Launch base Zone will also be a stage in the 3DS but it is unknown whether it is exclusive. Big Arm (the Final Boss from Sonic 3) will be a boss on the 3DS version and will have the Doomsday theme as his boss theme instead of the actual theme.

I'll post footage later

UPDATES

For any of those still interested in Generations, theres a feck load of stuff for ya.

First off there are 2 special editions. The French get a Tin edition and the UK gets the Collectors edition (now sold out (lucky I pre-ordered Very Happy )). I don't know about the French version but the UK version comes with a collectable Gold Ring, Collectable Sonic and Classic Sonic statue. Two DVD's following the history of Sonic, collectors sleeve, artbook and free Casino Night Zone DLC.

Now for more details on the game itself. There will be 3 eras with a zone from each which in turn will feature at least two stages (Classic and Modern), there will also be a co-op feature but details on that are sketchy at the moment (it's most likely speculated that after beating a stage you could replay it with/alongside a different character (Knuckles, Tails, Amy etc). The eras are Genesis, Dreamcast and Modern.

Also the game will feature the following bosses from past titles. Classic Metal Sonic (Sonic CD), Giant Egg Mech (Sonic 2), Perfect Chaos (Sonic Adventure), Shadow The Hedgehog (Sonic Adventure 2), Silver The Hedgehog (Sonic 06), Egg Dragoon (Sonic Unleashed) and Time Eater (the new/final boss for this game)

Below includes the best of the trailers and footage

Dreamcast Trailer

Two Sonic's Trailer

UPDATE
My bad, no word on a US special version

UPDATE 2

Thanks to some hacker I have now learned that Super Sonic (both Classic and Modern) will be playable in the stages of the game. The guy found the stage success animations within the coding and managed to upload a video on youtube before it was removed. Heres one of the saved versions

I reckon it's worth it if you like platformers, although you will need quick reactions for Modern Sonic

I'll look into this but I was so dissapointed with Sonic Unleashed which I thought would bring the whole RUNNING ELEMENT back into the series but Werehog ruined Sonic forever for me.

Seeing old chubby Sawnik running 2-D made me tingle but I thought the same with Sonic 4 and I hated it. I'll give it a rent on Gamefly.

Post by RYCloud92 Sun Oct 02, 2011 12:26 pm

I think they have been trying to refine/remake the genesis engine and 4 was the test. Gotta say I have played the demo and Classic plays close to the old games (and this was months ago whilst it was still being worked on). However your caution is just though Cap.

Suppose the best bit about this game will be that the Genesis classic engine will be worked into the future episodes of 4 (which might mean that the 1st episode will be reworked).

Anyway some more gameplay for those interested as well as some music. Another difference between the two Sonic's is their music styles, Classic will have electronic sounding level themes whilst Modern will have "rock" based music.

Classic Green Hill

Modern Green Hill

Classic City Escape (which is supposedly mixed with Endless Mine)

Modern City Escape tease

Title Screen Theme

Big Arm's theme (Classic Sonic, 3DS version only)

Chemical Plant and City Escape gameplay

City Escape Classic Sonic + Part of an interview

Will say this though, the majority of people they get to play the demo stuff aren't good. However found a piece of gameplay done by someone decent

City Escape Reveal Trailer

Original Teaser

"Look whose back" Trailer

Also confirmed/rumoured level list.

Green Hill - Sonic The Hedgehog
Chemical Plant - Sonic 2
Sky Sanctuary - Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Speed Highway - Sonic Adventure
City Escape - Sonic Adventure 2
Seaside Hill - Sonic Heroes
Crisis City - Sonic 06 (unconfirmed)
Rooftop Run - Sonic Unleashed
Planet Wisp - Sonic Colours

aswell as a confirmed/rumoured boss list and their levels

Classic Metal Sonic - Stardust Speedway (Sonic CD)
Giant Mech - Death Egg (Sonic 2)
Perfect Chaos - Station Square (Sonic Adventure)
Shadow The Hedgehog - Final Rush (Sonic Adventure 2)
Silver The Hedgehog - Castle Town (Sonic 06)
Egg Dragoon - Eggmanland (Sonic Unleashed)
Time Eater - ???? (Sonic Generations)

And finally for those interested in the 3DS version here is the gameplay footage

Sonic Generations Empty Re: Sonic Generations

Post by The Cap'n Sun Oct 16, 2011 4:57 pm

See, I think I'm one of the select few who thought Adventure 1 and 2 were garbage. You never actually fucking played as Sonic and Shadow. Every level was fucking Tails/Eggloser and Knuckles/Whore shit then only one or two Sonic/Shadow ones. I actually thought of the new-gen Sonic's that was actually worth playing was Heroes and I actually really liked that game. I wish they would just stick to the platforming mechanics of Heroes meets Genesis Sawnik and have no other playable characters but Sonic. This game seems promising but they always find a way to fuck up.

Kinda gotta disagree as it does seem SEGA has learnt from the negative gimmick feedback they recieved. Also because it is only Classic and Modern in this game. However your caution is understandable

Also I share a similar POV on the Adventure engine (even though I loved the both Adventure games). In fact I think the Hedgehog engine is what the series has needed (although what other choice did they have, 06 ran the Adventure engine through shit so hard that SEGA was never going to touch it again (their own fault for rushing a project though)). My guess is after 06 SEGA just thought "right we need to create some new games fast, have some interesting twist like Storybook work, RPG's and werewolves. Whatever we can to sell so we can survive this f*ck-up".

Any currently I am actually playing Unleashed to prepare for the modern stages and now that I know my way around the controls I'm finding S Ranking a breeze (except for the damm werehog, the small sh*t stain on clean shirt metaphorically speaking (however my theory with the werehog was that they where using it to test a beat em up engine for a game coming out at a later date (Madworld or Bayonetta perhaps )).

Anyway new video showing off the hub and stuff. Also for those interested it's rumoured a Modern Green Hill Zone demo will come out for download on Wednesday

Oh yeah another thing I forgot to mention is that the game will have a difficulty setting aswell. Don't think I need to go into more info On easy it's easier on hard it's harder etc.

UPDATE

If your an XBOXGold member you can play the 2nd demo now. Everyone else will have to wait a bit longer but it should be out today. The demo includes both the classic and Modern stages of Green Hill.

Also some clever clogs have hacked the new demo and found the credit music for generations. Slight spoilers for some however I've heard it and just nerdgasmed all over the place

UPDATE

Demo is up on PSN now (at least for the UK)

MAJOR SPOILERS

Cutscenes have been uploaded thanks to those who managed to get the game earlier then everyone else. MAJOR SPOILERS for the last cutscene but I think you Cap will be very happy to find out which Mastermind(s) are behind all of this (especially at what Classic Tails calls...them)

Time Eater revealed

Classic Sonic meets Modern Sonic

Opening cutscene

Also Perfect Chaos Boss fight (please note that the majority at ign...well they suck at the Hedgehog engine (trust me so many easy mistakes where made) so if I can find a better version of the boss I will)

and IGN's review for those interested

Also as a bonus heres some of the tracks

Open Your Heart Generations Mix

Modern Chemical Plant Zone
[youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TS5I4ews1OA&feature=channel_video_title[/youtube

Modern City Escape (full version)

Death Egg Final Boss Generations Mix

Super Sonic Racing Generations Mix (only for side missions)

and finally for the collection room (where all your unlocked goodies will be housed in the hub) we have
