Role Model Characters
I think everyone has a character they've admired since the first time they've picked up a video game controller. So, here's the topic to praise the character that held a place in your heart as the person to be all your life.
For me, my idol character was always a cross between Cecil Harvey, ever since I first played my Super Nintendo 15 years ago. Cecil wrenched himself into my favorite Final Fantasy character spot the moment I saw him. I felt like a kid who had gotten his first Superman comic book, and I wanted to BE Cecil for the longest time. I was about 4 years old when I first played FFIV, originally called FFII, and I couldn't get enough of Cecil and his dark, yet knightly personality and design. Even today, going back to play FFIV, I find myself in a constant state of awe whenever Cecil is on screen. I don't think Square could possibly make another character to replace Cecil as my favorite video game character of all time.
So, post a tribute to your idol character as a kid, and why these characters were so important to you. :]

I think mine is obvious. Zack Fair--I love everything he stands for. Loyalty, dedication, and just a badass dude overall

Dante
Talk about one of the most badass men in all of video games, he's often seen as a playful, relaxed, normally level headed. But the most impressive thing is, as far as compassion and respect for others, there isn't anyone more human than him in this regard. He's powerful enough to literally keep a fight with a 50 behemoth of a demon at a complete standstill merely because he wanted a friend of his to take some well deserved revenge on the jerk inside the statue, and he entrusts his deceased brother's most prized possession to said friend.

I assume you're talking Dante from Devil May Cry and not Dante's Inferno, right?

Re: Role Model Characters
Well you all saw this coming a mile away in a blue blur.
Yep my VG role model is Sonic. Seriously the Hedgehog is cocky and confident but he knows that there is a line of douchery and won't stand it when people cross it. He takes his life at his own pace, which usually is a fast one but he knows that on ocassion it goods to lie down and relax whilst he can (as seen Adventure 1). He values his friends but doesn't ever exactly go soft on them, possibly for the benefit that they might learn to do things for themselves or grow out of stupid habits (with Tail's it's finding a way to catch up (Sonic 2, 3) or just to grow up and fend for himself (SA). Knuckles it's just constantly reminding him that Robotnik/Eggman isn't too be trusted). Also he's blue, fast, awesome and I grew up with him.
Although not to say this wasn't a hard choice, it was between him and Snake.

Ryu of Street Fighter. "The Vagabond who dropped the Earth" as T.Hawk called him. While most street fighter games have no real story, some characters are given some minor thought and have a pretty decent background. Ryu's is simple but iconic. A man who strives for no materialistic thing, seeks no comfort, and also has a goal oriented mind. He wishes to be the best fighter and he does nothing but travel the world to hone his skills. He only takes enough winnings to get him by with food and the necessary things, but he seeks nothing else but to continually get better in the thing he loves the most and that is fighting.
Now I know I'm not the only one who can say that a video game character has influence my hobby in my spare time, but I can be one of the few who can say that Ryu's influence is a little bit more grounded and easy to relate to. Playing Street Fighter as a kid, I always wanted to do Martial Arts. Got into it a little older in life when I could afford it on my own; climbed up in rank and on to MMA and competed a couple of times and had fun at it. Now I don't throw my chi at will or walk around thailand bare feet, or much less wear a white gi, but in mind, the whole attitude of strive to be the best stuck.
And with some minor act of fate that the second badass of gaming for me has the same name. Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden. A man with very little words but is a badass in spilling blood left and right.

Junpei Iori has been a huge look into my life when I played Persona 3 and he has become my all time favorite character in anything ever. I can relate with Junpei alone in P3 since the rest of the cast seem more like anime characters than real ones from time to time but Junpei always felt human to me. What I relate to Junpei is the constant want of attention and his perverted/goofy outlook on life is just a cover for his extreme depression in himself which I had for years. What made Junpei awesome though was how he grew up in P3 from Pretending to be a hero to actually becoming one. He starts the whole game trying to compete with the team in order for everyone to realize that he's just as talented as them but his loud mouth and ego keep getting in the way. But when he meets Chidori, he meets someone who he wants to fight for and his transformation of his persona Hermes into Trismagistos was heartbreaking. In the end, Junpei became a hero and fights to protect his friends with everything and that's how I see myself. Sure I'm cocky and a raging asshole but I will always back up a friend when they need it.
