A Pirates Life For Me

Mateo gave a worried jolt when she tripped but at her embarrassment he did crack a small smile. "I'm sure we could find something. Just in case, the other men around decide to get some ideas." He said and looked around. He got an idea and moved to a chest full of old clothes used for spare cloth to patch sails, fishing through it and finding a shirt and pant that would be big for her but might work. "try this...with this." He said, also handing her a thick leather belt he had found to help keep the shirt and pants in place.

Hime took them a little hesitantly looking at Rei and Mateo both before giving up and just pulling the shirt over her own cloths. then the pants using the belt to secure it all.

finishing up she held out her arms, " what you think i look manly?" she asked trying to make a scary face. but managed only to giggle with a funny face.

Mateo tried unsuccessfuly to stiffle a laugh and gave her a humored but unsure smile. "We'll work on your pirate persona later. Right now I just want to get off this rotting excuse for ship." He said. After looking the whole thing over he could see the damage that had been done without proper care for the ship. This captian loved collecting more than his ship, a sure sign of a pirate destined to dall greatly to his own devices. He pushed a bang from his eyes and walked toward the exit, checking to make sure everyone followed. "Did you guys get a good look at the port? Anywhere familiar?" He asked both Rei and Freya, trying to get a heading of where they were and then get far away from this place. Perhaps they could sneak away from this crew and find another ship to take them back to Barbados. At least then they were out of most harms way.

freya rolled her eyes "have i ever seen ANY port. of course its unfamiliar to me" she said with slight grin. she was just happy he was safe. somehow though... it made her feel good and guilty that he had been in the cell, she had wanted him to feel what she did when she was trapt in the coffin. but she was guilty for even thinking that way

"mateo?" she asked as they walked past the small gap that was the water. she stared at it longingly "its too dangerous right now... isnt it?" she asked. but her head was getting light. she grabbed it when she felt her vision blur and kneeled on the edge of the deck

Hime relaxed and tried to keep unnoticeable as she fallowed with Rei beside her.

she watched the two before her and frowned slightly. she had a feeling of... gilt as well a feeling some what satisfied... but another feeling that seemed to nag her...

Freya must be overwhelmed a little for her emotions to be that easy to pick up... has she had enough water...

she thought as she crossed the gap fearfully looking at the black water below her and sighed reaching the dock before noticing Freya on her knees.

going to her side she touched her face looking into her eye's, " Mateo.. she needs salt water to drink... she is getting dehydrated... not enough salt in human drinks " she whispered just loud enough for there group to hear.

"GET OFF OF ME!" freya hissed her eyes an almost black they got so dark. she pulled herself up and hissed at hime "its you! that curse" she growled her fist balling up "i can feel your emotions too hime. and frankly, i dont like you!" she growled

freyas head was still spinning she couldnt control what she was doing or saying. everything was so overwhelming suddenly

"if you touch me again ill drag your unworthy ass to the depths" she growled turning and walking away. she wasnt to far before she needed a barel to stand up right. she felt sick and guilty for what she had said to hime. but at the same time something in her had just snapped. it was like it wasnt her saying it but something dragging the words from her mouth. she had always had an off feeling towards hime but never had it boiled over that much. she kept walking after her little break and then sat behind a barrel with her hat hanging over her face. she couldnt stand the sickening feeling that was growing in her stomach.

Mateo went to follow Freya but paused to look to Hime. She didn't seem to understand what had just happened just like him. "I'll be back..just let me go check on her." He said to them before hurrying after Freya. He looked around for her but couldn't find her anywhere. "Hey, have you seen a gi-I mean a boy running around here with a hat. Kinda small?" He asked a man that was walking by and he shrugged. Mateo huffed and kept searching for her. He stopped for a moment near her with out knowing to catch his breath. "Freya? Donde estas?" He called noticing most of these men around him looked purely english.

Rie kept his mouth shut... he was used to seeing the girls quarrel in court... never good to get between two women..

he simply helped her to her feet and coerced her towards a bench out side a near by bar and ordered two beers as they waited.

Hime fallowed with out a word. she new about her curse... it made mer folk become uneasy about her... even hate her depending on the individual...

almost an insurance policy that the sea will indeed become the final grave form here due to murder....

she sighed sipping her beer and thinking about her words...."if you touch me again ill drag your unworthy ass to the depths"

hime tried to relax but she could feel tears whelming up. loneliness was getting to her. but some how she was feeling that being alone might not be so bad if it ment you could not hurt others...

she smiled and downed the beer in hand asking for another while Rei raised a brow at her.. she was not much of a drinker. he had never seen her drink more then one...

he gave the waitress another coin and ordered a second for them both as they waited.

freya looked up at mateo "im a horrible person" she mumbled through her sleeve then immediately turned and threw up just over the deck. she pulled herself in a tighter ball

"me duele el estómago..." ((my stomach hurts...)) she mumbled her fever spiking as she huddled under her over sized clothes

Rei gets up and paces a bit feeling uneasy.

he didn't like sitting out in the open like that. but he couldn't go a see if Freya was okay because Hime was trying to drink all of his coin away.

" god damn't " he grumbled looking at Hime and glared at her. before sighing and ruffly tossing her over his shoulder fallowing the way Mateo went.

it took a few min but with his good height he found Mateo running towards him, " hey, we should get a room for the night or..... " Rei let his sentence hanging as he saw Freya balled up on the ground.

" dont just stand there, " he growled, " pick her up and fallow me. we need to get her into a room. the streets have eye's , ears and mouths. " Rie said turning to lead the way.

freya felt like her stomach was being ripped out. she groaned

"help..." she said as low as a whisper. feeling like she was going to hurl again

Mateo heard Freya say something about her stomach right before Rei showed up with a very drunk Hime. "Ah, yeah." He said before lifting Freya up as carefully as he could. For some reason she seemed almost fragile in this sick state. "necesitás ir al mar? (Do you need to go to the ocean?) I could find a safe place for you to swim for a bit..." He said quietly to her while they followed Hime and Rei. She looked so pale and sick he worried it might be like Hime said, was she drying out? That could kill a mermaid right? He didn't want to think about Freya dying but then again he didn't know very much about mermaids..."We will get you help. estoy aqui para ayudarte. (I am here to help you now)" He reassured her.
"There is always a safe place near the taverns. A place the women stay when they aren't working...I can get us in for free, and make sure no one knows we are there." He said to the others, knowing just what to say to the women that worked there so they would open there doors to them. After all he lived in that circut for so long. And also those places were usually close to the water, giving easy access to the sea.

Rei agreed with out much problem, " that will do very well then."

he smiled grimly, " we need to lay low till we can get moving again. " he stated hefting Hime up his shoulder again as she squirmed and mumbled about being able to walk by her self.

he sighed and fallowed Mateo quickly wanting to put Hime down before the situation turned to worse... his poor cloths had had enough abuse.

Hime gave up getting put down. she just hung there on his back looking down at the road sadly.

she needed to leave. tonight if possible, she did not want to cause trouble for Freya. truthfully she did not know the full depth of her curse.... for all she new she could be causing her illness....

Rei felt her give up and relaxed a little as he fallowed Mateo, " relax we will be there soon " he said to Hime .

Mateo walked down the crowded and dark streets of the shifty lower town. Everyone there was obviously up to no good and their occupations definately went against the laws put in place by any lawful authority like the British crown. He noticed the taver to his left and went right down an alley, constantly making sure Rei and Hime were with him. A pair girls by a closed and heavily locked door paused. The asian one batted her fan towards her powdered face, her eyes narrowed at Mateo and Rei.
"What the hell do you two want?" She said, while the other blonde woman looked over Hime and Freya.
"This isn't an inn for you two to shack up in, comprende?" The other woman said, her high pitched voice and english accent butchering the spanish.
"We come to get help for our friends. We're one of many after all." Mateo said not making much sense with the second half, except to the asian woman. She blinked and looked Mateo over carefully before lowering the fan to show her red painted lips.
"But one in the same." Their eyes locked for a moment before she stepped up to the door and gave it four distinct knocks. The door opened and she ushered them inside.
"Come on, get in. We'll show you to some rooms. Hannah, the house mother can has some remedies for that ones hang over later...but the other, her sickness is new to me." Mateo nodded as they were shown to two rooms that connected to each other by a main living space. Before he went into the room the asian woman stopped him.
"How did you know that code of refuge? only our sisters know it."
"My mother, Emiliana Rivera, was apart of your order. She taught it to me, just in case I ever needed to seek help."
The woman laughed. "Well lucky you found the right person. I'll send Hannah up, in the meantime, get them to a bed. They'll need to lie down to help them heal." Mateo walked over to one of the rooms, placing Freya on the bed.
"See I told you I would find help, si?" He said but his smile was faint with worry for her. He looked back to Rei.
"Is Hime alright? She must have taken Freya's words harder than I thought...."

" put me down " Hime said form Rei's shoulder before he let her off his shoulder.

Hime stepped away from Rei and looked to the floor not looking at any one.

" i will not sleep in the same room as Freya " he said as Rie frowned at her.

" why not... you really have no room to be picky " Rei said brushing her words off and taking a seat on the other bed in the room.

" besides your drunk you should rest instead of getting in every one's way. "

Hime sighed, " i think im making her ill... because of my cures... or just me. "

she stumbled back a little hitting the door with her back looking up and smiling, " if im not in here she might get better faster " she said in very fake cheer full voice..

a knock came at the door then and some how managing to open the door and keep Hime form tripping to her face a young girl made her way into the room with a bowl of water and some linen towels.

" hanna will be right in with you im meg pleased to meet you's" she said setting the things on the dresser by the door. " can i help with anything?" she asked looking about at the guests.

Hime smiled and raised her hand, " yes.... is there a bathing room... i would like a bath please?" she asked trying to smile brightly at the girl who just smiled back.

" sure... maybe some coffee too to help sober you up... "she put her arm around Hime and turned to the boy's , " ill see to her... but really its a little early to get a girl drunk boys... " Meg left quickly with Hime in tow.

Rei sighed and rolled his eye's. " she only had two beers... " he grumbled and got up walking over to Mateo's side to look at Freya, " how is she doing?" he asked quietly.

freya kicked her legs and arched her back before pushing her face into the bed pulling the shirt off of her back exposing her scaled back. the cuts from the whipping looked like it had gotten infected but it was sealed under her scales. in an effort to get air to her lungs better gills had formed along her side but had really only made it more painful

she gritted her teeth that were jagged and sharp

Rei gasped for a moment looking at her back.

it looked painful... also being around Hime did not prepair him for this... Freya was on a whole new level.

" her cuts... they need to be reopened... and cleaned... " Rei said.

" they look like old battle wounds that fester below the new skin... if its not cleaned right.. it will only get bad again and again... " he said remembering his fathers leg...

every so ofter it is cut back open and bleed before wisky is pored into it then a compact...

Rei put a hand on her shoulder and breathed in through his teeth... " this is bad... she has a fever.... Hanna needs to get here soon... we need all the time we can get... "

Rei started to think of all the things they might need.... depending on what happened they might need to cut her back open again... if Hanna didnt have a cure for it and salt water didnt help.... it might be there last resort...

"if you touch my back" she huffed through gritted teeth "i will see to it it is the last thing you do" she growled her eyes gone from black to yellow glared at him from her arms

Rei pulled his hand back feeling bad for her.

she must be in a lot of pain. he keep his composer knowing him and Mateo both my need to hold her down for hanna...

with this he was glad Hime was out of the room...

Mateo looked at the odd condition of her scales and had to cover his mouth to hide the fact it made him gag a bit. "Shit that doesn't look good..." He muttered just as a big boned dark skinnes woman worked her way through the door. She took one look at Freya and almost fainted.
"Oh dear lord, Leah what have you brought into my house!" The woman, apparently Hannah, said to the asian woman from before that caught her arm to steady her.
"Please. She's hurt." Mateo begged and Hannah paused. She looked over Freya for a moment longer before pushing Mateo aside. "Fresh water, we need alot of it and bring a clean rag. It looks like some kind of scale rot, the kind humans get in unclean wounds." She said but mateo was too surprised at the moment to move. Hannah barked something to Leah and she shooed Mateo out the door after the water and the towel before turning to Rei. "You, get the knife and the bandages from downstairs. They should be in the kitchen, the last door to your left. don't worry they're already clean." She said before turning her attention back to Freya. She pulled from her blouse a metal flask and held it to her lips.
"This drink will help numb the pain, hun." Leah said as she tried to carefully coax the flask to Freya's mouth.

Rei quickly made his way down the stairs and back with the bandages and the blade.

the inns kitchen was more like a minnie version of his homes...

he got back up the stairs not pausing to breath till he had the items placed for Hanna's use.

" sorry to be of little help lady " Rei said bowing slightly out of habit looking to Hanna.

" i will be of any help i can even if it is to help keep her still. " he said.

" i have seen my father get similar treatments for his leg. so i am at your command for now " he said.

freya snapped at the flash her teeth going straight through the metal she drank at the alcohol greedily. anything to ease her pain.

she took in a deep breath but she was so paniced by it all she kept trying to move. she knew exactly what they wanted to do and it would be like ripping 100's of fingernails off her back

"please please no!" she cried into the pillow "dont do this to me!!! mateo!! No voy a perdonar!!" (i wont forgive you)

Rei felt horrible about it but new it was for the best.

" Hanna. " can we lock Mateo out... i dont think he can handle it... " Rei said.

Mateo seemed too kindhearted a man to see a woman scream out in pain...

" that and i cant have Freya hating the person she likes most in the world now can i... what type a prince would i be. "

Rei quickly pushed the dresser before the door making it secure. " sorry mateo... its for your own good. "

" im ready to start when you are Miss " he said gettign closer and ready for pain him self...

"wait...what.... no" she said and felt the warm dizzing effects of the alcohol hit her stomach "eee" she mumbled feeling sick again "mateo..." she groaned

Rei new he would be hated by both Mateo and Freya... but he could do this much... then if forced to ... Hime already wanted to leave...

at least this way he wouldst be running away from Freya... not exactly.

getting onto the bed he pulled her into a position to better hold her down with her back exposed to Hanna and another girl that had come in to help before Rei blocked the door. " ready when you are " he said as he blinked back his watery eye's.

Hime sat in the bath water till she wrinkled till Meg forced her to the kitchen to drink coffee....

not that it was helping... she was still in pain... a little of Freya's and a lot of her own... she just did not know what ot make of things.
