A Pirates Life For Me

Hime didnt even try to move she just goaned, " not out side.... the sun.... so bright... " she covered her had with her hands wimpering at the hangover.

" why do they make this stuff if it makes you feel like hell " she grumbled as Rei tried not to laugh at her. this was the first hangover she had had... and she could drink it... but hell she could not take it...

" well its a good thing we didnt bring any thing with us huh... " he said getting up and picking up Hime after draping his coat over her head to keep her covered. " and this... should help out you hangover short stuff" he said jokingly.

Hime on the other hand did not like that, " im not short.... im vertically challenged " she argued as Rei smiled.

" same thing different words" he sent back lifting her up and holding her, " ready to do Mateo lead the way."

Mateo noticed Hime's hangover and felt a frown tug at his lips. The girl had drank so much for her size, that it had to be killing her. He silently prayed for her swift recovery, knowing Rei wouldn't take well to him mentioning it to Hime. "Alright, this way then." Mateo said with a quick flourish to the door before taking Freya's hand.
"It's just a small walk to the docks. They are good men, I made sure." He said, hoping she would be alright with new faces and a ship. He didn't have much time to spend worrying however, and led the others to the street. He moved quickly through the people but made sure to keep Rei and Hime close by. When they arrived to the semi small ship the sailor from before met Mateo with a worried look.
"Just on time. The captian was just about to leave you guys." He said and looked the people over. He eyed Rei and Hime and tisked.
"Is that the sister?" He asked, remembering what Mateo had said about the 'water allergy', Mateo's cover up for Freya's scaliness at times. He then looked and saw Mateo's hand clasped tightly around Freya's. "Or is this the lucky lady?" Mateo blushed and laughed uneasily.
"Uh yeah...th-this is her. And my other...friend is suffering from a bit of a bad spell." The sailor looked to Hime and raised a brow at Rei. "Our man Don can look into a tonic for her." He sighed and whispered to Mateo. "You've got your work cut out for ya with this ones brother. Seems serious."
Mateo cracked a small smile as he left and ushered everyone on board. H ejust hoped this would all work out...

Hime curled into Rie as the motion of his walking put her on edge... she did not want to lose all her food but it was trying...

Rei on the other hand was less then impressed with the merchant ship.. or Mateo's story.. he just hoped that Mateo new what he was getting into... and if he was Freya's brother... then what explains Hime and and MaTeo.

he sighed and shook his head feeling impatient. this was going to be a long ride...

turning to the man he nodded to him " thank you for letting us take passage with you. "

he then leaned his head t words Hime since he had his hands full holding her, " his there a place i can put this little once down?" he asked wincing when Hime pinched him for using a word to describe her height again...

"Ah yeah. We have a few sleepers bellow deck. Nothing fancy, but soft enough to help ease her stomach." The sailor said before opening the door and motioning him inside.
Mateo felt bad for dragging her on a ship again, but knew Rei would keep an eye on Hime. He just hoped she wasn't too miserable. He sat on a barrel watching as the few men worked to get the ship in condition for sailing. He looked to Freya who was being oddly silent and smiled a bit. "To sea again, Our homeland far behind us, where the tides shall lead and the waters be feirce, but pull away old lads from the land at your back, and hoist the Jolly Roger." He sang and gave a small laugh. "The men on the first ship I was on used to sing that after they left a port. It's kind of like a song of safe travel.."

Rei took her below and let her down so she could sit on the bed. " im guessing you will hide here all day?" he asked as she glared at him in her obvious discomfort.

" yeah... i will be hiding in here... so go away... i wan to be alown " she grumbled laying down easly and turned her back to him. only to be supervised when he left with out a word...

Rei went back up top and zero'ed in on Mateo his face full of serious intent as he got closer, " you and me need to talk a moment " he said cocking his head to the side as he eye'ed up the crew.

Mateo looked up and saw Rei. He should have expected this but he couldn't help the serious demeanor. "Alright." He got to his feet and followed him to the back of the ship. He kept his guard up however, just in case he decided to hit him again. Perhaps this time it would give Mateo a reason to fight back...He kicked himself mentally. 'Stop it! You two need to make amends or at least get along if you want to survive.' He thought and sighed. "So, what needs to be talked about?" He asked, after a bit of the crew had left that area.

Rei had a bad feeling about what he would get back but he decided to ask any way.

he sighed and ran a hand over his hair looking at Mateo and started off. " Hime... is in a mood i have not seen for a while... and to tell the truth.... im a little afraid of her... "

"and on that note... can you explain what.... 'our' story is... " he shook his head confusion crossing his face.

" i got the part were ... Freya is supposed to be my sister... but what about Hime.... that is the one part that is...sorta still ... unknown... please say you didnt .... put me in a bad.... spot... in this " he said a slight desperation tone in his voice as worry colored his meaning.

Mateo raised an eyebrow at Rei, confused by his unease. Hime was suffering through a hangover not some kind of evil spell. She wouldn't just bite someones head off over a complete lie right? He shrugged. "Depends on what you mean by bad. I didn't make you some kind of horrible person, but Hime id going to have to play the part of your wife for now." He said in thought. "It was the only real way I could explain how protective you were of her, you know from that spell?"

freya had blushed when mateo had pulled her close but as soon as he had let go she was leaning over the deck at the water. she pulled back and bumped into a man

"ah! lo siento~!" she said and the man blinked and blushed a little at her cute face before grumbling and walking away

she ran back and grabbed onto mateo's arm her head resting on his arm aswell

"this time... will you not leave me alone?" she asked her grip tightening

Mateo jumped when he felt a hand on his arm but paused when he saw Freya. "Alright, I won't." He said with a slight smile. He looked to Rei, raising a brow to dare him to say anything about it. He however had more to discuss with Rei, that would have to wait. "Look if..its going to be alot of trouble just don't tell Hime...if its bad enough that you have to, I'll tell her myself and save you the trouble." He said, feeling a little guilty that he got Rei in trouble with Hime. The sailor from before walked past and saw Mateo and Freya, and smiled.
"Aw look at you two, a match made by the sea herself it seems." He laughed and Mateo frowned slightly in confusion before remembering his lie.
"Um, yeah. It seems the tides did bring her in my direction.." He said as he touched her hand to reassure her. The sailor smiled, "Ah us french do love the love stories." He laughed and Mateo blushed. The sailor looked to Freya.
"So how did you two meet? I can't imagine this guy's charm could have caught your eye?" The sailor said and Mateo went to interject. "Let the lady talk man." The sailor said as he clapped Mateo hard on the shoulder.

Rei's face darkened at the interruption that seemed to debuted Mateo's lies....

he wanted to shake him hard... but took a deep breath to calm his nerves. he was going to feed Mateo's lies... for protection....

" i had hired him for a summer " he said dryly as he shrugged it off.

" my little sister Freya was always so nosy and would not stay home, fallowing me about was how she meet him " Rei siad in a tone that suggested he was not pleased in the very least about the match. they were long off from port now and he did not want to be tossed back into the ocean.

he sighed and too an idea to mind, " Mateo... Hime... my little one wants to speak with you about your situation with the boat " he said.

he was hoping it was veg enough to not tip the french off... while letting the ever dense Mateo know that he needed to tell Hime while he more or less hid up deck from her...

Mateo looked to Rei and was almost relieved from the break. "Oh, alright. Can't keep her waiting." He said and pulled Freya along with him to lower deck. He didn't see if Rei followed, but he was beginning to wonder why Rei was so nervous about this. He knocked on the door lightly to the room they had given Hime and Rei and looked back to Freya. "Hey, esperame aqui, porfavor." (Wait for me here, please.) He said, squeezing her hand gently to show he was coming back and left the door cracked as he went in.
"Hey Hime," He said softly when he saw her hangovered state. She honestly looked miserable and what made it worse was they were on a ship. He sat down on the chair next to the cot and notice the water mixed with a little tea on the table. "Sorry you feel this bad...but some water might help at least keep you hydrated." He said then sighed. "Well, Rei wanted me to kinda of explain the 'situation' here, want to hear it now or rather me wait till later?"

Hime rolled over to glare at him darkly.

she did not want water... or tea or anything that had to be swallowed....

she moaned unconformable as she tried to sit up.

" well honestly i dont know whats going on at all... but why another boat... could we not take a cart...?" she asked feeling the roll of the water underneath them.

" why are they so.... happy about you ?" she grumbled , " they think you are weird too?" she asked trying not to look so severe despite her want to curl up and toss a fit.

" damnt.... im in such a bad mood... were is Rei when you want to kick some one.... " she glared at the wall. " frickin little my left foot.. "

freya stood in that spot for a few moments but her curiousity got the best of her and she went to the lowest deck possible. it was so dark it was creepy and the creeks and groans made her scales stand on edge. she dug around the boxes seeing all the goods they had before finding an entire box of apples. she made a cooing noise and grabbed one taking a bite

she walked around to look at it all again and smiled before hearing a load screaching noise she bolted up the stairs so fast she nearly pealed the paint from the wood boxes. she panted when she got to the top of the stairs and looked around before walking to the upper deck. she walked over to the ropes and put the apple in her mouth climbing up till she reached the mast and sat swinging her feet looking out at the water taking another bite

Mateo was surprised by Hime's bad mood but reminded himself that she was suffering a hang over. He sighed, sensing she might not like what he was going to say. "Rei is off doing something...Anyways, back to the topic of the story I had to tell to get us on this boat. See honest men go for sob stories, the kind that make your eyes water and you feel sympathy. I don't like lying to good people but it sometimes needs to be done for a good cause...So that's why we're all going to need to play a part here. Freya is going to be playing my fiance for a day, Rei will be her brother, and you are going to have to be Rei's wife." He said, "But its just for pretend, not for long."

Hime stopped.

the only thing she did was breath blinking up at Mateo as she took it in. then it hit her and her face became very dark.

" i what... " she said more so as a threatening statement then a question to Mateo. " i WHAT!" she growled.

" no no no no no... see... me and Rei... i will kill him first " she said strait forward.

" never in a million and one days will i shackle my self to that... why in the hell would you say that when you KNOW how i feel about him" she said her anger changing to hurt as she felt as though he had betrayed her confidence in him.

" i guess you are human arnt you... all men are human one way or another... just some are not as bad as others. " she said all her energy draining out of her.

giving up she slumped back into bed turning her back to him, " go away Mateo " she said to him quietly, " im tierd... i want to sleep... tell Rei to keep away form for now.... if i want him ill go and get him my self. "

" also... when we dock i think its best... if i and ...." Hime paused in her words changing her mind.

it was not for him to know ... more of he will eventually notice it... " if you can shut the door as quietly as you can " she finnished hoping he would just go.... she wanted to be alone after all...

"mateo..." freya felt her heart strings pull suddenly. he had been down there an awfully long time... she knew what the growing feelings about him ment but was to awkwardly shy about them to even confront him about it, now sitting up there with nothing but her thoughts she had time to mull them over. she liked mateo, alot at that. he had been the onee always to save her. she wanted to share her world with him and his with her, but there he was in the room with hime... hime this and hime that, that girl bugged her to no end. and when he spent time with her freya felt like she was going to loose it. but instead she let her shoulders slump as her feet stopped kicking joyously. she threw the apple into the ocean and propped her head up with her hand. 'why do you get so angry? its not your place. he is not your play thing, and he is not yours period. you should not think such thoughts about fellow blood either' she mentally scolded herself but looked towards the deck

'i bet he doesnt even know im gone. if i disappeared he probably wouldnt even care!' she thought pouting 'maybe i will just leave ... for a bit... enough to make him worry! as soon as we hit the port!" she thought folding her arms and holding her head up proud of her little plan to make him worry, then maybe he would pay as much attention to her as he did for hime.

Mateo’s face fell, but he did as she asked, not wishing to bother her. When he shut the door behind him the thoughts and ideas mentioned by Hime and Rei hit him. Hime had called him human, a word she’d come to know as a cruel and bad thing. She’d also called him just like other men, the type that Rei referred to him as aswell. Mateo felt his fists clench, but made himself release them. ‘I can’t be like that…can I? No, I’d never-would I? How do I know?...Am I really a horrible person?’ He was so caught up in thought that he hardly noticed his mood had darkened. Mateo’s cheerful smile had vanished leaving him to look pretty pissed off. How could he not be a little mad? It wasn’t like he was telling Hime she had to actually marry Rei, he was just saying she needed to be a bit nicer to him on this trip. She didn’t have to go and call him some kind of pig for it. ‘Women are way too complicated.’ No, people were complicated! He went onto the deck and almost ran into Rei.
"There problem solved. She told me to tell you to avoid her for a while." He said quickly and curtly before walking past him. He went to find a place to sulk for a bit instantly grabbing the ropes to head up to the crows nest but instead found himself faced with Freya. He put on a small smile though he wanted to frown when he saw her looked kind of bugged about something herself. “What’s bothering you?” He asked, sitting on the ropes next to her.

freya jumped when mateo suddenly appreared and she tried to smile "did you enjoy your time with hime? you were in there for an awfully long time.." she said gritting her teeth slightly at the last part

Mateo's smile faltered. "Yeah...it was definately enlightening." He said and looked out to the water and then at Freya. He looked her over a moment in thought before the question finally fought its way from his mouth. "B-Before, you said I wasn't like the other men in the crew, you know when we first met. Do you think I've changed since then, that maybe you were wrong?" He asked, but the words came out awkward instead of his usually smooth and calm speech.

Rei could tell that Hime was acting the way she had when he first met her... closed in... striking at anything that could hurt her... saying things he had found out she did not say on a regular basis...

he sighed walking into the galley taking a seat after finding a beer.

" ah.... if this is married life " he said shaking his had in disrepair, " i just don't think i could survive it... " he moaned.

freya blinked at the sudden question and looked him over then felt a frown pull on her face "you are much different then other men! you .. you dont hurt." she said and put her arm around his leaning her head on his shoulder "your soft.. your mind works different" she said and pulled away leaning and kissing his cheek

"you arent a man" she said but didnt mean it the way it came out. (lol) she ment it more in a way that he couldnt possibly be a man because he was too different from the others, but her limited vocabulary was something that she struggled with

"mateo, do you not like me because im not like you?" she asked with a blush trying to fight back tears suddenly

Mateo looked at Freya, happy at first to hear her words then confused with her kiss and question. His brow furrowed in confusion though his cheeks felt hot. How did she want him to respond to that? He knew she wanted something positive, but in what direction? With Freya and her limited choices of words he couldn't quite tell if she meant what all she said or had another underlying meaning. Now with him already in trouble for what he said, he wasn't sure he could answer this so simply.
"Freya, there are very few people I dislike and I can say honestly, you aren't one of them." He said and placed his hand lightly on hers. "You're probably-actually, you are the most interesting girl I've ever been around. The one I don't want to see disappear.." He said and felt an odd emotion message with his thoughts. It was a hesitance as well as push for him to say more to her. He was confused by the feeling that had crept it's way into his mind, something of warmth he hadn't felt for a long time...and yet, he wasn't sure if she was able to feel the same. "You're different, as well." He said after a bit of thought, looking back at the ocean. "But just how different, I'm not so sure yet."

she smiled until the last statement and then the smile slowly disappeared "oh... thank you" she said and looked out at the ocean aswell.

"im tired... i think im going to go to sleep" freya pulled her hand from mateo and grabbed the rope looking back for a moment "thank you for talking with me" she said and then slid down landing on the deck a little wobbly she made her way to below deck laying in one of the cots she wrinkled her nose at the horrible smell and tried to think of something else

Mateo frowned when Freya left and burried his face down in his arms. He felt almost a bit sick himself, before he fell asleep against the net. His eyes snapped open when the sailors around him were barking orders in French, all of the pulling ropes and pointing to the port. Mateo sat up with a groggy look and saw the port. He saw the port and his mouth fell open. Port Charles was like nothing Mateo had never seen before, a beautiful clean and white port of architecture so rich of french influence it practically glowed like a painting. He blinked when he heard someone laughing and looked down to see the sailor from before. "Like what you see? Wait till you see Fifth Street. My uncle owns an inn there. Please you and your fiance and family are welcome to stay there." Mateo smiled and nodded before, dropping down from the ropes. He walked bellow deck and called to the others that they'd reached port and finally Freya who was still asleep. He couldn't help but notice her calm and careless face, he even found himself blushing slightly and slightly worried to wake her.
"Oye, Freya. Estamos en port. despiertate bella durmiente.." (Hey Freya. We are at port. Wake up sleeping beauty.) He laughed, shaking her shoulder lightly.
